Abu Dhabi: Plastic surgery is on the rise in the United Arab Emirates, reflecting current global trends.
According to latest official statistics, the amount of money spent on plastic surgeries in the UAE soared by 15 per cent to 17pc annually.
The figures were revealed during the 4th Middle East International Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine Conference and Exhibition (MIEDAM).
Around 1,000 doctors from 40 countries attended MIEDAM 2019, organised by the Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.
Conference president Dr Khalid Al Nuaimi, a consultant dermatologist, said that plastic surgery tops all other medical specialities, taking into account the amount of money being spent on operations.
He said that cutting edge devices have been imported to the UAE, including medical instruments used to fight greaying hair through repigmentation.
Citing latest statistics, Dr Al Nuaimi said that the most widespread in the world are breast augmentation (15.6pc), liposuction (14.6pc), eyelid surgery (12.5pc), rhinoplasty (8.1pc), abdominoplasty (7.5pc), breast lifting (6.1pc), facelifting (5.6pc), breast reduction (4.5pc), face beautification (4.3pc) and buttock-enlargement (3.1pc), according to Emarat Alyoum.
