HORSERACING – PHOENIX and Membership headlined the list of winning horses in the 25th meeting of the 2024-25 national horseracing season at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
The meeting was held at night under lights as the final instalment of REHC’s Ramadan programme.
In attendance were General Sports Authority vice-chairman and Bahrain Combat Sports Council president Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, REHC vice chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa, and other high-ranking officials.
Phoenix won the Future Stars Champions Leg Two in the day’s third race, held for local breeds over a 1,600m distance and carrying a BD4,000 prize. The three-year-old colt triumphed for owners M and E Racing and trainer AM Smith, with Lee Newman in the saddle.
A pair of Al Adiyat Racing-owned, Smith-trained horses joined Phoenix in the top three. In second was Intelligence, ridden by Alejandro Brun, and in third came South China Sea, saddled by Abdulrahim Jasim.
Meanwhile, Membership clinched victory in the Future Stars Sprint Leg Two. The race for local breeds was held as the seventh and penultimate event of the evening over a 1,200m straight, with BD4,000 in winnings.
Membership was competing for the Adiyat-Smith-Jasim triumvirate.
Lady Hurricane finished as runner-up for L&L Racing, Smith, and Newman, while Deham came third for Victorious, Yousif Taher, and Salem Alajmi. Princess Of Monaco was fourth to claim the final share of the prize money, racing for L&L, Smith, and Dhay Al Saadoon.
In the first race of the meeting, Kuheilan Al Adiyat 1894 lifted the Late Hasan Bin Saleh Al Rowaiee Cup – a WAHO event covering a 1,200m distance with BD1,500 in total prizes. Krushan 1793 was second for Al Roudha, Adel Abdulla, and Marcialis Jaures; Al Ma’anagy 1919 was third for Victorious, Taher, and Hasan Ali; and Al Suwaity M1063 came fourth for Al Mohamediya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed, and Husain Makki.
Elsewhere in the meeting, Naahy won race two (1,400m distance, BD2,000 in prize money) for owner Fata Abdulhaleem Majeed, trainer Osama Hashim, and jockey Ali Husain; Miss Yvonne won race four (2,200m, BD3,000) for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Husain; Uptoyouordowntome took race five (1,000m, BD2,000) for M and E, Smith, and Brun; Alabrar won race six (1,200m str, BD2,000) for Al Sairafi Syndicate, Hashim, and Abdullah Alkhamis; and Western won race eight (1,200m str, BD3,000) for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Asghar.
The national horseracing season is set to come to a close in April with the last five meetings at REHC.
