FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN have dropped three places on the latest edition of the Fifa World Rankings.
The newly updated classification of senior men’s football national teams from around the world was released yesterday by Fifa, the international game’s governing body. It was the first for 2025.
The Bahrainis went down to 84th place after losing 15.52 ranking points. They are now on 1,290 total points from a previous mark of 1,305.52.
The drop in the Fifa World Rankings follows the national team’s record in the window from the previous classification, which includes their two losses last month in the third round of Asian qualification for the Fifa World Cup 2026. Those were a 0-2 defeat to Japan in Saitama and a 0-1 setback to Indonesia in Jakarta.
Despite the decline, the kingdom’s squad remained 12th in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which continues to be topped by the Japanese, who are 15th in the world with 1,652.64 ranking points. Iran are the second-best team in Asia – and 18th in the world – with 1,637.39 points, followed by South Korea who are 23rd worldwide with 1,574.93 points.
Australia (26th, 1,554.55pts), Qatar (55th, 1,456.58pts), Uzbekistan (57th, 1,437.02pts), Saudi Arabia (1,418.96pts), and Iraq (1,413.4pts) complete the AFC’s top eight.
Amongst the GCC nations, Bahrain are fifth, behind the Qataris, Saudis, the UAE (65th, 1,382.7pts) and Oman (77th, 1,323.91pts). The nationals are ahead only of Kuwait, who are 134th in the world with 1,112.12 ranking points.
Argentina are the top-ranked nation in all of world football with 1,886.16 points. They are followed by Spain with 1,854.64 points and France with 1,852.71 points.
Rounding out the world’s top eight are England (1,819.2pts), Brazil (1,776.03pts), the Netherlands (1,752.44pts), Portugal (1,750.08pts), and Belgium (1,735.75pts).
The next update of the Fifa World Rankings will be on July 10.
