COUNCILLORS have echoed concerns expressed by an MP over the lack of maternity hospitals in the Northern and Southern Governorates, citing past instances when women have given birth in cars or at home before reaching medical facilities.
This came after Parliament’s foreign affairs, defence and national security committee vice-chairman Hassan Ibrahim called for a maternity hospital serving both the governorates, highlighting the long distances to Jidhafs Maternity Hospital and Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC), both in the Capital Governorate, as well as frequent congestion and patient overflow .
