FOOTBALL – AL Khaldiya and Riffa are set to clash on Tuesday for the right to be crowned the first-ever champions of the all-new Khalid bin Hamad Cup.
The Bahrain Football Association (BFA) announced yesterday that the title-decider will be held at the National Stadium in Riffa, scheduled for a 3.45pm kick-off.
The highly anticipated affair is set to be a clash between two of the top clubs in the kingdom, who will be vying for the cool BD50,000 in prize money that will be awarded to the champions.
Khaldiya, the defending back-to-back champions of the Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League, earned their place in this tournament final after outclassing Muharraq 4-1. Riffa, on the other hand, needed a winner in extra-time to oust Al Ahli 3-2 in a nail-biting encounter.
All four teams made up the preliminary round of this prestigious tournament, which is being held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The quartet are in the competition having finished as the top four clubs in the 2023-24 season of the premier league.
