In a shocking display of courtroom violence, a defendant attacked a judge during a felony battery case on Wednesday, sparking a chaotic brawl involving court officials and attorneys. The incident, captured on video, unfolded at approximately 11am at the Regional Justice Centre in Las Vegas.
Deobra Delone Redden, 30, reportedly leaped over a defence table and the judge's bench, striking Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus and sending her crashing against a wall before pulling her to the floor. Judge Holthus sustained injuries but did not require hospitalisation, according to courthouse officials.
A courtroom marshal also sustained injuries while intervening to protect the judge. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of a forehead gash and a dislocated shoulder, officials confirmed.
Redden was quickly subdued by court officers and jail staff and taken into custody. He now faces additional felony charges, including battery on a protected person, in connection with the attack on Judge Holthus and the court official.

Witness Accounts Paint a Frantic Scene
“It happened so fast it was hard to know what to do,” said Richard Scow, the chief county district attorney who prosecuted Redden in a previous case stemming from an alleged baseball bat assault last year.
Redden's defence attorney, Caesar Almase, has not yet responded to requests for comment.
