Dubai: The Dubai Police have arrested a man for appearing in a video and defaming followers of other religions.
Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina said that the man, a UAE national, made a video which went viral online, to mock non-Muslims’ religious celebrations, using obscene language.
Al Mazeina said that the police launched an investigation and arrested the man who was referred to the competent authorities for legal action, under the Anti-Discriminatory Law that criminalises any act that foments religious hatred.
Penalties for violation of the provisions of the law include jail terms ranging from 6 months to more than 10 years and fines from Dh50,000 to Dh2 million, according to Emarat Al Youm.
