CYCLING – SPANIARD Pello Bilbao was the top finisher for Team Bahrain Victorious yesterday in the 59th Amstel Gold Race in the Netherlands.
The elite men’s road event was a one-day event held as part of the 2025 calendar of the Union Cycliste Internationale World Tour.
Bilbao completed the 255.9-kilometre ride in a solid 25th place amongst the 175 pro riders who participated.
Bilbao was part of a trailing group that finished more than three minutes behind winner Mattias Skjelmose of Lidl-Trek team, who beat Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates-XRG and Remco Evenepoel of Soudal Quick-Step in an exciting three-man sprint to the finish.
Skjelmose clocked a mark of five hours 49 minutes 58 seconds in first place.
Bahrain Victorious’ Columbian rider Santiago Buitrago was the team’s second-best finisher in 29th overall, while Italian Edoardo Zambanini came 45th.
Their four other teammates in the race did not finish, including Mathijs Paasschens of the Netherlands, Robert Stannard of Australia, Fred Wright of Great Britain, and Nicolo Buratti of Italy.
