CYCLING – Bahrain Cycling Association (BCA) president and Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) member Dr Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Ahmed Al Khalifa has been appointed as technical committee chairman and road committee member of the ACC.
This came during the first meeting of the current ACC executive committee, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Dr Shaikh Khalid received this high sporting honour and trust from the ACC executive committee due to his extensive experience in the sport of cycling, in addition to the high administrative and technical standing that qualifies him for such positions.
Also during the meeting, the ACC executive committee was briefed of Bahrain’s latest preparations to host the third Asian Youth Games later this year. The event will be hosted by the kingdom from October 22 to 31, under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Cycling is set to be one of more than 20 sports featured in the event. The others include athletics, badminton, basketball 3x3, boxing, camel racing, equestrian (endurance and jumping), e-sports, futsal, golf, handball, judo, jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts, Muay, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, wrestling, weightlifting, kabaddi, volleyball, and teqball.
Asia’s best young athletes representing an expected 45 countries will be descending upon Bahrain for the competition. This year’s Asian Youth Games follows the first edition held in 2009 in Singapore with 43 nations competing in nine sports. The second took place in Nanjing, China in 2013 with 45 countries participating in 16 sports. Succeeding editions in 2017 and 2021 were cancelled.
