Admissions are now open for Bahrain’s newest university, the British University of Bahrain (BUB), in Saar.
BUB has formed an exclusive partnership with the University of Salford, Manchester, one of the UK’s leading universities.
Offering only degrees from the University of Salford, BUB represents a new concept in higher education in Bahrain.
Speaking about BUB’s unique position, vice-president Professor Keith Sharp explained:
“For the first time, students in Bahrain can be awarded exactly the same degree as they would if they travelled to Manchester and studied there.
“Unlike some other universities and institutes that offer British degrees, the programmes available at BUB are identical to those offered at Salford in every detail.
“One consequence of this is that our students can, if they wish, transfer to Salford’s UK campus at any time in their course of study.”
Another distinguishing feature of BUB is the importance placed on its relationships with industry and its emphasis on preparing students for the real world of work.
“Like our Salford partners, we believe the role of a university is to prepare students for their future careers and this influences every aspect of what we do,” added Prof Sharp.
“Throughout their time with us, students will be exposed to the industries in which they will eventually work, and through our innovative approach to learning and teaching, students will gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the modern workplace.
“So, we will work with our industrial partners to make sure that all students gain practical as well as theoretical knowledge.”
BUB has three colleges and will offer nine separate undergraduate programmes, all selected because of their industry relevance in Bahrain and the region.
The College of Engineering and the Built Environment reflects the importance of the construction sector in Bahrain and includes Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Project Management, and Property and Real Estate.
The College of Information and Communications Technology offers Software Engineering and Computer Networks and mirrors the key role of the IT sector in Bahrain’s future economic growth.
The College of Business has programmes in Marketing, Accounting and Management and supports Bahrain’s role as a financial and business hub.
BUB is housed in a brand new, state-of-the-art campus in Saar, adjacent to one of the kingdom’s newest and most exciting malls and residential developments.
The campus has been designed to maximise the use of IT in learning and teaching and to facilitate the kind of active, student-focused learning which is core to BUB and Salford’s philosophy.
A range of scholarships are available for students wishing to apply to BUB, including a 30 per cent scholarship for transfer students throughout the duration of their degree.
