Riyadh – The Ministry of Information has referred Saudi TV presenter Sherin Al-Refai for investigation for flouting the dress code.
She appeared on TV as she was wearing an open white abaya, showing her clothes, which was considered by the General Commission for Audio-Visual Media (GCAM) a violation of regulations.
The 34-year-old Al-Refai was presenting a report on the lifting of ban imposed on women’s driving on the 24th of June.
She "fled" Saudi Arabia after receiving a notification referring her for investigation over her dress code violation.
However, the GCAM regulatory authority said that disciplinary measures would be taken against the TV presenter, even in her absence.
A video recording posted on social media websites showed the TV presenter wearing her controversial white abaya.
Al-Refai is a holder of a BA degree in radio and TV media from the Imam Mohammed bin Saud Islamic University.
She first worked at MBC Children and Al-Raya channels, before joining the public Al-Ekhbariya TV channel in 2006.
Al-Refai, who is also a writer, was chosen as Best Saudi TV presenter in 2011.
