Kuwait City: The new law would entail new benefits for the workers. It would include 30-day annual holiday, nine months after the start of the job contract. At the end of the contract, the employee will get a free air ticket home.
According to Kuwaiti Arabic language daily ‘Al Anba’ the law was intended to improve and regulate a relationship between the employer and employee. It also promises all rights to both the parties.
Under the new law, an employee can postpone his annual holiday to two years to increase the number of days off. Thus, forcing the employer to pay end-of-service benefits without any delay.
A probation period of 100 days has been set for the worker and the employer must make clear if the job contract is for a specified or unspecified period.
To make the job contract easy to understand General Workforce Authority is expected to ask diplomatic missions abroad to translate the contract to non-Arabic languages to ensure workers are aware about their rights and duties.
