VOLLEYBALL – Al Ahli dug deep into their arsenal to pull off a hard-earned 3-2 (18-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 15-13) victory over Dar Kulaib last night in the semi-finals of the 2024-25 His Royal Highness the Crown Prince’s Cup.
The result gave Ahli a 1-0 lead in their best-of-three series and they are now just one step away from qualifying for the title-decider. They will be hoping to secure their spot when they play game two on Wednesday at Isa bin Rashid Volleyball Arena, located at Isa Sports City in Riffa.
But Dar Kulaib will be looking to extend the match-up to a decisive third game, which would be played, if needed, on Saturday later this week.
Dar Kulaib took the first set in convincing fashion yesterday, capped by a Yousef Khaled attack. Ahli responded in the second and Ali Ebrahim supplied the game-tying point.
Dar Kulaib regained the single-set advantage after closing out set three with a double block by Hasan Al Warqaa and Ali Habib, but Ahli were able to send the match to the tie-break following a service error by Khaled forged the 2-2 tie.
In the fifth set, Ahli powered ahead early but Dar Kulaib tried to stay in the fight. Ahli finally secured the win following a block out on a Sayed Mohammed Al Abbar attack.
Also playing key roles for Ahli in their win were Hasan Haider, Hani Alawi, and French professional Joachim Panou.
Ahli joined recently crowned Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League champions Muharraq as game one winners in the semis. Muharraq will also be looking to secure their place in the final when they face off with Al Najma on Wednesday.
