MOTORSPORT – BAHRAINI-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport showed their strong pace yesterday with top 10 finishes in the two test sessions, gearing up for this weekend’s second round of the 2025 British GT Championship.
The meeting is currently being held at Silverstone Circuit in the UK, and 2 Seas are one of the leading contenders.
The team, co-owned by Bahrain’s Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, were the winners in the first round of this campaign, held earlier this month at Donington Park.
The 2 Seas pair of Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss, driving the team’s #42 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, claimed a superb lights-to-flag victory in a hotly contested two-hour race. Their teammates Kevin Tse and Maximilian Gotz in 2 Seas’ #18 contender also had reason to celebrate, joining them on the podium in third place overall.
In yesterday’s opening test, Tse and Gotz steered their car to a best lap time of one minute 59.010 seconds, which was good enough for seventh on the timesheet, which featured a total of 33 cars. Dawson And Jewiss followed in 10th place with a fastest mark of 1:59.266.
Setting the pace were Rob Collard and Hugo Cook of Barwell Motorsport, who powered their Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 to a top time of 1:58.199.
In yesterday’s second session, both 2 Seas cars were once again in the best 10, with Dawson and Jewiss this time classified ahead of their teammates in eighth with a fastest lap of 1:58.752 – an improvement from their earlier best. Tse and Gotz were ranked 10th with a quickest time of 1:58.851.
Morgan Tillbrook and Marvin Kirchhofer of Optimum Motorsport were the session’s leaders, clocking a best mark of 1:58.086 in their McLaren 720S GT3 Evo.
2 Seas are back in action today with free practice at 11.30am, pre-qualifying at 2.20pm, and then qualifying at 6.15pm. Following a 15-minute warm-up tomorrow at 11.30am, the weekend’s three-hour Silverstone 500 is scheduled to flag off at 2.30pm. All times are Bahrain.
2 Seas are competing this British GT campaign hoping to repeat their title-winning success in the GT3 teams’ championship from 2023. They enjoyed a solid campaign last year, which saw them claim two race wins and a pole position.
The 2025 calendar features nine rounds in all, to be held across six meetings in the UK and one in Belgium. Following this weekend’s action, rounds three and four will then be held at Oulton Park over the weekend of May 23 to 26. The series will then move to Spa-Francorchamps for round five from June 20 to 22.
Snetterton will host rounds six and seven from July 11 to 13, round eight will be at Brands Hatch on August 23 and 24, and then the ninth and final round will be back at Donington Park on October 4 and 5.
