MOTORSPORT – RED Bull Racing reserve driver Ayumu Iwasa will be getting into the team’s car in the first practice session tomorrow of this weekend’s Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
This was announced yesterday by the team, who noted that Iwasa will be taking over for four-time drivers’ world champion Max Verstappen for the 60-minute session.
The 23-year-old Japanese driver is part of the Red Bull Junior programme. He got his F1 debut in a free practice session back in 2021.
Iwasa is the latest rookie to be announced as a runner in the opening practice. The others are Felipe Drugovich, who will be driving for Aston Martin, Frederik Vesti for Mercedes, Luke Browning for Williams, Dino Beganovic for Ferrari, and Ryo Hirakawa for Haas.
Drugovich will be in the car for Fernando Alonso, Vesti for George Russell, Browning for Carlos Sainz, Beganovic for Charles Leclerc, and Hirakawa for Oliver Bearman.
