The Red Bull F1 team has announced that Ayumu Iwasa will replace Max Verstappen in the first practice session (FP1) during this weekend’s Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
As part of recent FIA rule changes, it is now mandatory for all drivers to give up their seats in a free practice session at least twice each season.
Iwasa, 23, is a Red Bull reserve driver and part of the Red Bull Junior programme. He got his F1 debut in a free practice session back in 2021 in the car that went on to win the race.
Ahead of the recently concluded Japanese GP, the Red Bull team dropped Liam Lawson for Yuki Tsunoda.
