The private sector in Bahrain plays a pivotal role in supporting sustainable development in the kingdom by participating in charitable projects and community initiatives. This helps improve social and economic life.
The contribution of businesses also help fund projects to empower the most needy groups in society by supporting initiatives at improving health, education and social services, and building homes or providing medical equipment. They also co-operate with the government in implementing development plans through partnerships.
There is no doubt that this assistance leads to improving the quality of life for citizens, enhancing social solidarity, reducing economic gaps and achieving sustainable development through an effective partnership between the public and private sectors.
Over the years, many well-known Bahraini families have been known for their generosity, contributing to supporting and building developmental, social, charitable, health, sports, mosque and other projects.
I recently read about Fawzi Ahmed Kanoo undertaking to build a large hall for events in Diyar Al Muharraq. Shortly before that, he had built a mosque in the same area in the name of his wife, as well as opened the Mubarak Jassim Kanoo Comprehensive Social Centre.
Personally, I believe that the family deserves to be honoured for their generous and inspiring contributions, not only through building the centre but also through implementing many charitable and humanitarian projects and initiatives that serve the community, which reflects their commitment to supporting and backing national efforts.
Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo Group chairman Khalid Mohammed Kanoo stressed that the group was keen to adopt various community projects in memory of the late Mubarak Jassim Kanoo and in recognition and appreciation of his contributions and his prominent and distinguished role in serving the community and the nation.
He also underlined the group’s keenness to strengthen community partnership with government institutions in various fields, especially with the Social Development Ministry.
Group vice-chairman Fawzi Ahmed Kanoo said that the family’s contributions to Bahraini society are but a translation of the will of the father Ahmed Ali Kanoo on the need to provide support and assistance to all citizens of the dear homeland.
The contributions of this family are countless, and the most beautiful thing is the diversity in supporting charitable projects. It has contributed to building health centres, elderly care centres, mosques, youth centres, playgrounds, social centres and event halls, among others. Not to mention their provision of many modern medical devices to the country’s hospitals.
I wrote in a previous article about the very negative and modest role of many well-known and wealthy Bahraini families in adopting social and charitable development projects. Despite its limited geographical area and population, the kingdom has wealthy families who are stingy and fall short in contributing to charitable causes that our true Islamic religion has urged us to do. There are many charitable and social projects waiting for someone to adopt them. Frankly, we do not need more mosques – we have enough in all areas – and it would be more appropriate to look into other projects, as earning reward and recompense is not limited to building mosques only, but any work that serves the people.
