Muharraq powered to a high-scoring 112-105 victory over Al Ahli last night in their Premier League clash of the 2024-25 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Tony Mitchell poured in 44 points while burying a red-hot seven three-pointers to spearhead the Muharraq attack in the contest, where they led by as many as 26 points.
Muharraq claimed their fourth win in five games while handing Ahli their second straight loss after opening the season with back-to-back victories.
Muharraq edged ahead 29-25 at the end of the opening period and then blew the game wide open with a stunning second period, where they doubled the output of their rivals 38-19, earning them a commanding 67-44 cushion at the break.

In the third, Ahli gradually chipped away at the deficit and they outscored Muharraq 32-18, getting to within 76-85 heading into the final frame. There, Muharraq managed to stay in the driver’s seat although Ahli battled until the very end. They cut the gap to single digits multiple times and came to as close as six points, but it was too late to try and steal away the victory.
Mitchell came away with 13 rebounds to go with his impressive game-high output. Mohammed Ameer chipped in with 21, while Zachary Lofton nearly had a triple double with 18 points, eight rebounds, and 12 assists. Ali Hussain contributed 13 for Muharraq, while skipper Bader Abdulla Malabes finished with seven markers.
For Ahli, Elijah Thomas scored 34 points and grabbed 14 boards to pace his side in the loss, while Jordan Stevens added 27 and 11 assists. Maitham Jameel finished with 14 and Hesham Sarhan 12 in the loss.

In yesterday’s other fixture, Nuwaidrat routed Bahrain Club 90-49 in a League B encounter.
The winners built a 25-5 advantage in the opening period and never looked back, going up by as big as 48 points with under three minutes to go in the game.
They had a 43-17 lead at the half, which they extended to 70-33 in the third period before doing just enough to close things out.
Malik Wineglass scored 21 points and grabbed 15 boards to lead Nuwaidrat while Emran Hasan had 18. Mohamed Salman Ali and Hassan Abbas had 11 each in the win.
For Bahrain Club, Sayed Salman Husain was their only player in double figures with 12 points. Mansoor Jaber scored nine and Hashim Naser added seven in the loss.
Nuwaidrat stayed undefeated after four games to top the League B table while Bahrain Club suffered their third loss in four contests.
League action continues tonight with another two games on schedule. At 6pm, winless Isa Town take on Samaheej in a League B contest, to be followed at 8pm by a Premier League clash between Al Hala and Al Ettihad.
