CYCLING – VICTORIOUS team rider Mohammed Isa Alqais triumphed yesterday in the Bahraini Amateur category in the 153-kilometre stage of the fourth Nasser Bin Hamad Cycling Tour for Amateurs 2024.
Alqais completed yesterday’s leg, which started from Marassi Al Bahrain and ended in Zallaq, in a total time of three hours 51 minutes 33 seconds.
Mohammed Hasan Jawad finished as the stage runner-up with a similar time, while Mohamed Ahmed Zaed came third 16 minutes and 19 seconds behind to complete an all-Victorious podium amongst the Bahraini amateurs.
Victorious were the stage winners in the teams’ category after registering a combined time of 11:50:58 with their trio of Alqais, Jawad, and Zaed. Alkheelan finished second in 13:45:38 with their trio of Jamal Aldosari, Adnan Sabah, and Zidan Obaid; while Triple M Trek comprising Mohamed Rashed Ismaeel, Nawaf Aldoseri, and Mohamed Mubarak finished third in 14:14:20.
Nearly 50 Bahraini amateur riders were in action in yesterday’s stage.
With his individual stage win, Alqais maintained his lead in the general classification by time and by points. Jawad stayed in front of the under-23 classification, while Aqeel Tahmer of Bahrain Giants, who was fourth yesterday amongst Bahraini amateurs, tops the over-40 classification heading into today’s final stage.
Victorious are in first place in the teams’ classification.
Meanwhile, amongst GCC, national teams, and expat riders, Ibrahim Al Ali of Esaad team from the UAE won yesterday’s stage. He completed the leg in a time of 3:48:22.
Dubai Police’s Hamad Alsabri came second with a similar time, while Hussain Mohamed Ali of Al Wathba-Endura, also from the UAE, finished third in this category, 1:01 behind the leading pair.
Amongst the teams in this stage, Dubai Police won in 11:30:08 with Alsabri, Majed Mohamed Alblooshi, and Yaser Juma Alblooshi. ABH were second in 11:32:35 with Sayed Allawi, Abdulaziz Saleh Alsharafaa, and Saad Alblooshi. Al Wathba-Endura completed an all-UAE top three in 11:32:49 with their riders Ali, Saeed Mohamed Alhammadi, and Rashed Abdallah Suwaidan.
Alsabri was in first place in this division’s general classification by time and by points with just one leg remaining.
Mahdi Hasan Jawad of Naseej tops the under-23 classification and Kevin Orlandi of France, competing for Victorious, leads the over-40 classification.
Dubai Police are number one amongst the teams.
Close to 80 riders competed in yesterday’s stage amongst the GCC, national teams, and expats competitors.
Today’s final leg is set to be held over a distance of 55km, beginning and ending in Zallaq. The concluding day of racing will also feature a 60km women’s race, children’s races between three km and 10km depending on the age categories, and a Para cycling race covering a 10km to 15km distance.
The event is being held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
