MOTORSPORT – BAHRAINI-British GT team 2 Seas Motorsport claimed yesterday a second-row grid position for the ninth and final round of the 2024 British GT Championship, taking place at Brands Hatch Circuit in the UK.
The 2 Seas pair of Kevin Tse and Maximilian Goetz powered their #18 Mercedes-AMG GT3 challenger to a best combined time of two minutes 47.135 seconds during yesterday’s qualifying runs, earning them fourth in the starting positions.
Tse had posted a fastest lap of 1:24.546 for third place in the first of two sessions in GT3 qualifying, and then Goetz had a mark of 1:22.589 in the second, which was also third on that timesheet.
Team RJN’s Joshua Caygill and Alex Buncombe claimed pole position in their #2 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo with a team best of 2:46.496, narrowly beating Garage 59’s Morgan Tillbrook and Marcus Clutton, who had a best time of 2:46.576 in the #77 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo.
Joining 2 Seas on the second row in third were Barwell Motorsport’s Alex Martin and Sandy Mitchell, who drove their #78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 to a top combined mark of 2:47.017.
There were 14 cars in all in yesterday’s GT3 action. Earlier in the day, Tse and Goetz steered 2 Seas to eighth on the timesheet in the free practice session, where they clocked a fastest time of 1:24.508. They were then fourth in pre-qualifying, posting a best lap of 1:23.633.
Today, following a brief, 15-minute warm-up session, the British GT campaign’s concluding two-hour race is scheduled to flag off at 3.30pm, Bahrain time.
2 Seas, co-owned by Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, were the series’ GT3 teams’ champions last season. This year, the team have won twice heading into the championship finale. Both wins were claimed by Tse and Goetz – the first at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium and then the second at Snetterton Circuit.
