HORSERACING – BAHRAIN-based company S/L Architects has won the award for ‘Best architectural design for public buildings renovation’ for the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) grandstand redesign project.
This was as part of the Luxury Lifestyle Awards for the year 2024, which is held annually in New York, the US, and highlights the latest developments in the field of architecture while honouring the most innovative projects executed globally.
The design of S/L Architects, led by Bahraini principal engineer and S/L Architects founder and director Marwan Lockman, won the international competition award for the distinctive design of the REHC grandstand project, which met the highest level of standards, while taking into account the climatic and environmental elements that match the geographical nature and landscapes in the area surrounding REHC in Riffa.
On the occasion, Lockman expressed his honour in receiving such an award and hopes to be the first of many more as S/L Architects continue with further design implementations at REHC. He added that this is credited to the kingdom, as the REHC grandstand redesign project is considered one of the advanced model projects, and winning this award confirms the distinction of this architectural design, and the direction the REHC is hoping to continue on as a venue of international horseracing standards.
Lockman stressed that S/L Architects is always keen to create unique engineering and architectural design projects, such as the redevelopment design of the REHC grandstand, as well as the Al Dana Amphitheatre design, which had previously won several international awards and prestigious media publications, most notably in the RIBA Journal (Royal Institute of British Architects). He expressed his thanks to all the partners for providing an opportunity to win this international award, which is an incentive to continue working and achieving further success.
For its part, REHC congratulated S/L Architects on winning this international award, which reflects the distinguished level of the REHC’s building, architectural design, and its prestigious image. This success is a source of pride and gives further credence to the incentive and ambition to continue cooperation between the two parties in the future.
