ENDURANCE HORSERACING – HAMAD Al Janahi from RM Stables clinched the victory yesterday in the main race of the Khalid Bin Hamad Endurance Championship.
The prestigious event took place in the presence of His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa at Bahrain International Endurance Village in Sakhir.
It was held under the patronage of SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Nasser was keen to follow the stages of the race, which covered a total distance of 120 kilometres and featured riders representing the kingdom’s private stables.
Al Janahi took first place ahead of Hamad Ismail Al Balooshi from Al Ajial Stable, who finished as the runner-up, while Khalifa Khalid from Al Asayel Stable claimed third to complete the podium placers.
Shaikh Nasser stressed that the Khalid Bin Hamad Endurance Championship is one of the strongest events of the season due to its large participation in both the international and local races, in addition to yesterday’s main event for private stables.
Shaikh Nasser further indicated that Shaikh Khalid is always keen to support endurance rides, and that this backing contributes to the continued advancement of the sport.
Shaikh Nasser congratulated the riders who claimed the top finishing positions. Shaikh Nasser also praised the high levels shown by the participants in the championship.
Following the action, Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef) secretary general Ghalib Al Alawi and Breef assistant secretary general and Bahrain Royal Endurance Team director Dr Khalid Ahmed Hassan awarded the winners their prizes.
Yesterday’s ride followed the first day of action on Friday, which featured 120km and 100km international rides, as well as local events of 100km, 80km, and 40km.
The championship was supported by diamond sponsor Bapco Energies, platinum sponsors Benaa and Al Salam Bank, gold sponsor GFH Bank, silver sponsor Alba, and bronze sponsor the Bahrain Economic Development Board.
