Meta is set to fire around 3,600 employees as part of its latest performance-based job cuts. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that around five per cent of the workforce will be affected.
The company aims to accelerate its performance management process by removing low-performing staff.
This follows Meta's earlier decision in 2023 to cut 10,000 jobs in its "year of efficiency" drive.
Zuckerberg announced that the company will now implement more extensive cuts, focusing on areas such as artificial intelligence, smart glasses, and evolving social media platforms.
Meta, which had around 72,000 employees as of September, is expected to notify impacted US-based staff on February 10.
