OLYMPICS – Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended the official podium ceremony for the women’s 3,000 metres steeplechase last night at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi was awarded her historic gold medal.
Also on hand in the stands at the 81,000 plus-capacity Stade de France were GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, BOC vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji and a number of Team Bahrain officials and administrative members.
Shaikh Khalid received Yavi after she was presented with her medal and expressed his pride and appreciation for her great achievement.
Shaikh Khalid and the other Bahrain officials also watched on as sprinter Salwa Eid Naser booked her place in the women’s 400m final last night.
