TENNIS – BAHRAIN’S up-and-coming young tennis players are set to compete in a pair of leading international competitions across the Gulf this week.
A delegation of Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) youngsters will be participating in the Dubai Bowl by Ten-Pro Global Junior Tour in the UAE, while the kingdom’s youth national team will be competing in a continental championship in Muscat, Oman.
The Dubai Bowl by Ten-Pro Global Junior Tour is scheduled to get underway today at Rackets Academy in Dubai and continue until Sunday next week.
The BTF squad, which includes 14 players, both boys and girls, departed yesterday for the Emirate. The delegation is headed by BTF board member, BTF technical committee chairman, and BTF national teams director Mohammed Salman.
The kingdom’s young talents in the event are Abdulla Shaheen, Abbas Nabeel, Issa Zuhair, Abdulaziz Faqih, Hassan Bukhammas, Abdulrahman Al Dosari, Abdulla Al Dosari, Yousef Kamal, Ammar Maze, Abdulla Al Asad, Khalifa Rashid, Ahmed Khalfan, Maha Faqih and Noor Hussain.
The Bahraini players will be taking part in the under-10, under-12, under-14, and under-16 competitions.
Meanwhile, the under-14 tournament in Muscat begins tomorrow and continues until January 23.
The national team features four players, including Nasser Salman, Ali Al Khayyat, Layal Bassem, and Maryam Al Abbasi. They have also already departed the kingdom with their coach.
Bahrain are one of 13 national teams participating in the championship. The others are Iraq, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, the UAE, Yemen, and hosts Oman.
