MOTORSPORT – FERRARI AF Corse were in the overall lead last night at the end of the second hour of action in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the crown jewel of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Their #50 Ferrari 499P Hypercar, driven by the crew of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina, and Nicklas Nielsen, had completed 32 laps at this stage to lead the race’s top-tier class of 23 Hypercars.
Meanwhile, JMW motorsport’s #66 trio of Giacomo Petrobelli, Larry ten Voorde, and Salih Yoluc were setting the pace in the LMGT3 category. They had 29 laps at the end of two hours in their Ferrari 296 LMGT3 contender.
In the LMP2 class, which is only appearing this WEC season at Le Mans, the #34 Oreca 07-Gibson of Inter Europol Competition, were the leaders. Their driving duties were shared by Jakub Smiechowski, Vladislav Lomko, and Clement Novalak, and they had completed 31 laps.
A massive 62-car grid roared across the start line at Circuit de la Sarthe yesterday to mark the beginning of the 24-hour endurance challenge, one of the most famous motor races in the world. This year’s event is the fourth round of the WEC season. It is scheduled to conclude this evening at 5pm, Bahrain time.
The kingdom is scheduled to host the WEC finale on November 2 at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
