Drink drivers and maniac motorists high on drugs will face the wrath of the law with the help of cutting-edge technology now available to traffic police.
The innovative equipment has been introduced to Bahrain in a partnership between Y K Almoayyed & Sons (YKA) and German medical and safety company, Dräger.
The devices, renowned for their accuracy and reliability, will assist law enforcement and aim to boost road and workplace safety too.
“Dräger Alcotest breathalysers, designed for use by police, industry and individuals, are simple to operate and provide fast, reliable and hygienic results,” said a Dräger spokesperson. “The devices also store data, allowing for quick access to previous test results for a comprehensive approach to alcohol screening.”
The Dräger DrugTest 5000 is hailed as the ‘fastest and most precise method’ for testing oral fluid for a wide array of drugs, including amphetamines, opiates, cocaine, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids and methadone.
The accompanying Dräger Diagnostics Software ensures seamless data management, prioritising efficiency and accuracy, from a company boasting more than 65 years of experience in the sector.
“Dräger’s drug and alcohol testing equipment has a long-standing history of supporting law enforcement globally, aiding in the identification of offenders and providing robust evidence for legal proceedings,” the company representative added.
“Stringent quality controls guarantee consistent and dependable results. In workplaces, these solutions contribute significantly to employee safety and overall operational security.”
Dräger says it is ‘committed to safety’ with its non-invasive testing methods prioritising the protection of both the tester and the donor. Sample collection has been designed to eliminate direct contact with the donor’s oral fluid, ensuring hygiene and safety.
“Beyond their crucial role in workplace safety and law enforcement, Dräger’s testing solutions are instrumental in promoting road safety,” added YKA Industrial and Building Systems Division retail trading manager Rajesh Pushkaran.
“By integrating these devices into routine traffic stops and DUI checkpoints, law enforcement can swiftly identify and address impaired driving, making Bahrain’s roads safer for all.
“By choosing Dräger through Y K Almoayyed & Sons, businesses, law enforcement agencies and road safety authorities in Bahrain can trust in a robust, efficient and precise solution for alcohol and drug detection, contributing to a safer and more secure community.”
The authorities also hope that knowledge of the technology now available to the authorities will act as a deterrent too and potentially save lives as people think twice before getting behind the wheel of a car whilst intoxicated.
