BAHRAIN military athletics team took the limelight at the first World Military Half Marathon Championships, which was held in Lucerne in Switzerland, winning first place in the women’s team competition and the first and second places in the women’s individual category.
Among 300 runners from 39 countries who participated in the championship, Bahrain’s Viola Jepchumba won the individual women’s race by finishing in 1:07:59, while Ruth Jebet came in second finishing in 1:08:22.
Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa congratulated His Majesty King Hamad, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister, on the historic achievement.
