Abu Dhabi – The UAE health authorities have prohibited a facial cream used to smoothen and whiten the skin and fight dark spots.
The health directorate in Abu Dhabi banned Mena Facial Cream for containing a high concentration of mercury – a poisonous substance banned in cosmetic products in the UAE market.
The directorate announced that lab tests conducted on samples of the cream revealed the presence a high concentration of mercury, which pose a threat to children and pregnant women.
“The banned cream has side-effects which include nausea, stomach-ache, vomiting, muscle spasms, diarrhea, anemia and other problems for liver and the nerve systems”, said the statement.
The directorate said that it is coordinating with the UAE government departments and other authorities to ban the cream, urging the public to avoid using it.
