An elderly Kuwaiti man was conned out of KD37,000 (approx. BD45,500) and left with only KD4 (BD4.9) in his account.
The victim was tricked into sharing his bank details via a One-Time Password (OTP) sent to him by a scammer who called him from a local phone number. The caller claimed that the 69-year-old was the target of a cyberattack and that he was sent to protect the victim's funds. As soon as he shared the information, his funds were promptly reduced to just KD4.
The victim has reported the incident. The exact method of withdrawal and the scammer's identity remain under investigation.
