KUWAIT- The Kuwaiti Government Universities Council approved on Monday a memorandum suspending student election activities at all levels of higher education in government universities and colleges inside and outside Kuwait and other educational institutions.
Acting Secretary-General of the Government Universities Council Hiba Al-Shatti said in a press statement following the meeting held today under the chairmanship of Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Education Dr. Nader Al-Jalal and attended by council members that the council discussed the items on its agenda and approved the decisions issued by the Government Universities Council Al-Shatti explained that the decision to suspend student election activities "comes as a result of the deviation from the basic objectives on which this union work was based, which reflects concern that the student electoral process no longer serves the public interest of students and does not promote the democratic values that it should represent.
She pointed out that the Council of State Universities confirmed in its meeting its support for scientific, sports, social and cultural student activities in all higher education institutions due to their vital role in developing students’ skills, raising their academic level, and developing
their personality and creative abilities in order to graduate an aware generation capable of contributing to serving their community and building their country.
