ATHLETICS – BAHRAIN’S Paris 2024 Olympian Nelly Jepkosgei won the women’s 800 metres event at the Grand Prix Lombardia-Brescia 2024 meeting, held in Brescia, Italy.
Competing in her third race since the Olympic Games, Jepkosgei triumphed with a time of two minutes 01.07 seconds.
The 33-year-old narrowly beat McKenna Keegan of the US to the finish. Keegan had a mark of 2:01.32 as the runner-up, while Eloisa Coiro of Italy came third in 2:01.55.
Jepkosgei was the lone Bahraini competing in Brescia. The meeting was a bronze level event on this year’s World Athletics Continental Tour.
It was her second victory in three days after also taking first place in the 23rd Volksbank Trier Flutlichtmeeting in Trier, Germany, last week.
There, she clocked her season’s best of 1:57.69. Vivian Chebet Kiprotich of Kenya was second in 1:58.43, while Billings finished third in 1:58.94.
Jepkosgei had an early exit at this year’s Paris Olympics. After not making it past the first round heats, she also did not advance following the repechage stage.
