The BKS-VIVA GCC Junior Badminton Tournament got off to a colourful start at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam Diamond Jubilee. Junior players, aged between 9 and 19, from various GCC countries are contesting in this three-day event organised by BKS in association with Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation (BBSF). The tournament started off with preliminary events yesterday. All matches up to semifinals will be played today and all finals along with prize distribution will be held tomorrow.
This tournament has four events – Boys Singles, Girl Singles, Boys Doubles and Girls Doubles – which will be played in six categories – Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19. Around 130 players registered in this tournament which is open to residents of any GCC country. Among the contestants, 25 are from Kuwait, 12 from Saudi Arabia and 10 from the UAE. Top ranked Junior players like Mohammed Moanis and Abdullah Saheer from UAE are also contesting in this tournament.
Entry is free on all days and BKS welcomes all badminton enthusiasts in the kingdom to support the youngsters.
