Muharraq defeated Al Hala 80-70 in an exciting sixth-round encounter of the Zain Bahrain Basketball League at the Zain Arena in Um Al Hassam yesterday.
Muharraq asserted their supremacy in the first half of the game, winning the first quarter 23-16 and the second 16-13 to take a 10-point lead at half-time.
Al Hala bounced back after the interval to take the third quarter 24-17 and raise hopes of an upset victory ahead of the final session. Muharaq, however, held their nerve and took the fourth quarter 24-17 to seal a 10-point victory.
Mohammed Nasser was the top scorer for Muharraq with 28 points and 11 rebounds while Bader Abdulla supported him with 19 points. Keanau Post led Hala’s scoring with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Muharraq top the table with 10 points while Al Hala have six.
In another game yesterday, Marcel Jones scored 51 points to help Al Ettihad beat Isa Town 114-106.
Contribution
Marcel’s contribution included five three-pointer, 29 rebounds and six assists. The other major scorers for the winners were Hassan Fahad with 19 and Ahmed Ghanim with 15.
Yesterday’s win raised Ettihad points tally to six while Isa Town could not add to their six points.
Today Riffa take on Nuwaidrat at 5.30pm and defending champions Al Ahli face Al Najma at 8pm. Both games will be held at the Zain Arena.
On Thursday, Manama beat Bahrain Club 99-76 in a sixth-round game.
Hassan Nawruz and Lebanese professional Karim Ezzeddine excelled for Manama, scoring 24 and 23 points respectively.
Manama total six points from three wins in the championship, while Bahrain Club have seven points after one victory and five losses.
In another game, Sitra claimed their second win after defeating Samaheej 97-91.
Sitra’s professional player Diallo netted 34 points for his team.
Sitra have collected eight points so far while Samaheej have nine.
