THREE of Bahrain’s eight athletes named in the Asia-Pacific Team will be competing today in the IAAF Continental Cup Ostrava 2018 in the Czech Republic.
The two-day meeting is a quadrennial competition organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) featuring squads representing entire continents rather than individual countries. It is being held for the third time in its current format.
Set to appear today are Salwa Eid Naser, Hajar Alkhaldi and John Koech.
Edidiong Odiong, Winfred Yavi, Birhanu Balew, Aminat Yusuf Jamal and Noora Jasim will be in action tomorrow.
Hajar will be the first to appear on track in the women’s 100 metres final at 4.15pm, Bahrain time.
Salwa, who won three gold and a silver at the recenlty concuded Asian Games in Jakarta, will be next on the cards running in the women’s 400m at 4.47pm.
Koech will then make his return appearance in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase at 4.59pm.

Tomorrow, Edidiong will run in the women’s 200m, Winfred in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, Balew in the men’s 3,000m, Aminat in the women’s 400m hurdles and Noora in the women’s shot put.
In the Continental Cup athletes will be aiming to collect team points, individual cash prizes and a piece of the IAAF Continental Cup Ostrava 2018 trophy.
The winners receive $30,000 (BD11,280), second-placed $15,000 (BD5,640), third $10,000 (BD3,760), fourth $7,000 (BD2,632), fifth $5,000 (BD1,880), sixth $3,000 (BD1,128), seventh $2,000 (BD752) and eighth $1,000 (BD376).
