CYCLING – Team Bahrain Victorious rider Damiano Caruso claimed a top 10 finish yesterday while teammate Finlay Pickering maintained his hold of the blue jersey after the second stage of the 48th Tour of the Alps, which continued in Italy.
The elite men’s road race is a part of the 2025 calendar of the Union Cycliste Internationale Pro Series.
Caruso completed the 178-kilometre leg in eighth place, crossing the finish line as part of the trailing group that was 41 seconds behind stage winner Michael Storer of Tudor Pro Cycling Team, who won in five hours and two seconds.
Pickering followed as Bahrain Victorious’ second-best finisher yesterday in 32nd overall, while Afonso Eulalio was 38th. The rest of the squad saw Kasper Borremans in 57th and Fran Miholjevic in 72nd, while Antonio Tiberi did not finish.
Following yesterday’s result, Caruso climbed eight spots to 10th in the race’s general classification, where the riders are battling for the overall leader’s green jersey. He is just over a minute from Storer, who is in first place.
Pickering held on to the blue jersey in the king of the mountain rankings, improving to 14 points – four ahead of Koen Bouwman of Team Jayco Al Ula. Pickering also improved two places to sixth in the best young rider standings for the white jersey, now just under four minutes behind leader Paul Seixas of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team.
In the race’s points rankings for the red jersey, Miholjevic is Bahrain Victorious’ top-ranked rider in fifth with 20 points, with Pickering not far behind in seventh.
Action in the five-stage race continues today with the 145.5km third leg, starting from the Italian commune of Sterzing and ending in the municipality of Innichen.
