HORSERACING – MR Irrelevant lifted the Binance Cup last night to headline an evening of exciting action at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Isa Bin Salman Education Charitable Trust chairman, Labour Fund (Tamkeen) chairman, and REHC chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa was in attendance.
The meeting was the 28th of the 2024-25 national horseracing season at REHC, and it was held under floodlights.
Mr Irrelevant triumphed in the third race of the day, held over 1,600m, to claim the lion’s share of the BD4,000 total prize.
The four-year-old gelding took first place for owners Al Mohamediya Racing and trainer Fawzi Nass, with jockey Husain Makki in the saddle.
Mr Irrelevant won with a length-and-a-quarter gap from runner-up Gulmarg, also racing for Mohamediya and Nass, with Husain Asghar as the jockey. Modmin came third for Al Asayel Racing, Khalid Al Khatri, and Marcialis Jaures, while Mehmento came fourth for Al Afoo Racing, Jaber Ramadhan, and Ebrahim Nader.
In another race, Nomadic Empire won the ninth and final event last night to come away with the BPay Global Cup. The seven-year-old gelding clinched first place following their run down a 1,200m straight to collect the biggest piece of the BD4,000 prize.
Nomadic Empire was competing for Mohamediya, Osama Hashim, and Asghar. Inveigle finished second for Sayed Jawad Marzooq, Mahmood Jawad, and Rosie Jessop; Labalaba took third for Shaikh Isa bin Duaij bin Salman bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Fawzi Nass, and Husain Makki, and Rebel At Dawn was fourth for Shaikh Salman bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Adel Abdulla, and Anas Al Siyabi.
In race two, The Irishman secured the victory for the Binance Mile Cup. Competing over a distance of 1,600m for BD2,000 in winnings, The Irishman took fivst place for L&L Racing, AM Smith, and Marcialis Jaures.
Mister Dollar was second for Mohamediya, Ali Abdulmajeed, and Asghar. Pisces finished third for Shaikha Deena bint Rashed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Yousif Alboainain, and Salem Alajmi; while Night Lantern took fourth for M and E Racing, AM Smith, and Hasan Asghar.
Elsewhere, Obeyan 1983 won the Binance Arabian Cup in race one for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti, and Nader; Bint Al Jazeera claimed the Binance Research Cup in race four for Mohamediya, Hashim, and Anas Al Siyabi; Memory Card lifted the Binance Academy Cup in race five for M and E Racing, Smith, and Jaures; Mossaafer took the Binance Square Cup for Salah Racing, Adel Abdulla, and Jaures in the sixth race; Messayil won the Binance Exchange Cup in race seven for owner and trainer Jaffar Marzooq with Al Siyabi as the jockey; and Garsman lifted the Binance Sprint Cup in the evening’s eighth and penultimate event for Abnaa Hani Al Marzooq, Hashim, and Abdullah Alkhamis.
