Popular Egyptian restaurant chain Bilaban has reopened its stores in Saudi Arabia after a month-long closure due to a mass food poisoning incident.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi personally intervened, issuing directives to the Health Ministry, resulting in the stores in Saudi Arabia and Egypt reopening.
The restaurant chain closed all of its stores in Saudi Arabia, as well as all 110 branches in Egypt, after bacteria found in their food caused widespread food poisoning in both countries.
The Egyptian food safety administration found in tests that the products were stored improperly and a significant amount had expired, allowing bacteria, as well as some internationally banned food dyes, to be present in the meals.
