WRESTLING – BAHRAIN bagged two bronze medals last night in men’s freestyle wrestling at the Senior Asian Championships in Amman, Jordan.
Magomedrasul Asluev finished third overall in the men’s 74kg weight division, while Shamil Magomed Sharipov took a podium spot in the men’s 125kg class.
The two bronze medals brought the kingdom’s haul from the competition to three, adding to the silver won by Khidir Kurban Saipudinov on Saturday in the men’s 79kg category.
The prestigious meeting was held under the banner of United World Wrestling (UWW), the sport’s international governing body.
Asluev secured a share of the final step on the men’s 74kg podium after beating Iran’s Mohammad Reza Aadollah Shakeri in their concluding classification contest. Asluev was joined as a bronze-medallist by Tu Erxun Aheiyou of China, who was a winner yesterday against Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Nasritdinov.
Capturing the gold was Nurkozha Kaipanov of Kazakhstan, who beat Orozobek Toktomambetov of Kyrgyzstan in the final.
Asluev came away with his second bronze in the history of the event. His maiden continental medal was also for third place in the 2023 competition in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Sharipov, on the other hand, took third place in the 125kg class after beating Ahmed Salah Al Jamie of Iraq in their bronze medal match.
Sharipov was joined in third place by Dinesh Dinesh of India, who overcame Zyyamuhammet Saparov of Turkmenistan. The gold medal was won by Amirreza Masoumi Valadi of Iran, who beat Lkhagvagerel Munkhtur of Mongolia in the final.
Sharipov secured his second successive bronze in the competition. He won the same last year in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
