FOOTBALL – REAL Madrid came through a topsy-turvy game with Leganes last night to claim a 3-2 victory and put pressure back on Barcelona in La Liga’s title race.
Kylian Mbappe scored in each half either side of a Jude Bellingham goal – his first in the league since January 3 – to seal all three points for the champions after Leganes had come from behind to lead at the interval.
It was hardly a top-drawer performance from Los Blancos, but given Carlo Ancelotti started a weakened side as he gave some of his returning international players a little rest, the way they responded after going behind will give him encouragement in this gruelling title battle.
Real are level on points with leaders Barca at the top of the standings, with Hansi Flick’s side to play Girona on Sunday, while Atletico Madrid are six further back after their draw with Espanyol earlier yesterday.
