A cargo ship is sinking off the Red Sea coast of Quseer in Egypt after crashing into a coral reef on Monday.
The VSG Glory had set sail from Yemen and was bound for Egypt when it collided with the coral reef 11 days ago. Despite multiple efforts to save the ship since the initial accident, none were successful, leading to its eventual abandonment.
All crew members were safely evacuated before the ship was ultimately beached. Rapid action was taken to remove any materials from the ship that could pose environmental risks. A total of 250 tonnes of polluted water were pumped out of the ocean, and the ship was drained of all its fuel.
The vessel remains in its current location, listing significantly and partially submerged near the beach.
