TENNIS – THE winners of the second edition of the Bahrain ITF Juniors Tennis Tournament 2024, held at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town, were awarded their respective trophies.
BTF president Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and BTF secretary general Fouad Al Rowaie were on hand to present the victors their trophies and medals.
Fangyu Shang of China and Dev Kanbargimath of Romania were crowned champions of the girls’ and boys’ singles, respectively. Fangyu claimed her second successive girls’ singles title after also winning the previous ITF competition in the kingdom last week.
Meanwhile, Ekaterina Dotsenko and Vasilisa Dorina emerged as the girls’ doubles winners while Dev and Shixun Zhu of China secured the boys’ doubles crown.
Dev thus came away with an impressive title double from the ITF event.
Both competitions were part of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Juniors calendar for 2024. A third event will be held in Bahrain from December 2 to 8.
Prior to that, the kingdom is also set to host the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group V and the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group III.
Davis Cup action is set to take place from Wednesday to Saturday. Fifteen nations will be competing, and they will be hoping to finish as the top two and gain promotion to Asia/Oceania Group IV next year.
The participating countries include Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Guam, Laos, Macau, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Northern Mariana Islands, the Philippines, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Yemen, and hosts Bahrain.
Billie Jean King Cup play will be held from November 25 to 30. Seventeen nations are expected to be a part of the event, namely Bhutan, Brunei, Guam, Iraq, Laos, Macau, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Northern Mariana Islands, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, and hosts Bahrain.
