A woman who ordered an "all-you-can-eat" special at Applebee’s restaurant in Portage Indiana, US, ended up getting arrested for sharing an item from her plate.
The 28-year-old was dining with a group of friends and allegedly shared an item with her table, which then led to a heated dispute with the restaurant’s staff. The matter escalated and authorities had to step in.
According to Portage police, the woman was accused of "disorderly conduct" over the limits on the Applebee’s special. She had argued with the restaurant’s manager over the $15.99 "all-you-can-eat" rules, as stated in the report.
The restaurant charged the group for two $15.99 specials, after noticing the woman sharing the item.
As a result, the group became raucous, and police were called to intervene.
According to the police report, they were accused of causing "disturbance with the manager and other patrons," as well as "declined to pay for both specials."
Additionally, a dispatcher heard "multiple people screaming, threatening people" inside the Applebee's restaurant.
The cop who arrived at the scene, scanned the menu and swiftly concluded that the group were not abiding by the rules of the restaurant.
The officer stated that the menu indicated "the ‘All You Can Eat’ special and while I was looking over the menu, underneath the bold letterings which read ‘All You Can Eat’ was displayed ‘Per Person.’"
The police then presented the menu to the group outside the diner.
However, the woman’s unruly behaviour continued there too.
As a couple walked out of the same restaurant, the woman pointed to them and gave a mouthful, after they told the officers that the group had "exchanged words with them [inside the premises] too."
The officer warned the 28-year-old that she could be arrested on the basis of a "disorderly conduct charge."
The woman’s friend desperately tried to tell her to keep quiet numerous times but to no avail. At one point, she even put her hands over her friend’s mouth, but the frenzied woman continued shouting, according to the report.
As a result, the officer arrested the woman on a misdemeanour charge.
The woman’s friend then went inside and paid the full bill “after realizing the menu stated the special was ‘per person,’” the report concluded.
