Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa expressed his appreciation for the role of sports federations in Bahrain’s sports achievements during 2022-23.
Shaikh Khalid was speaking as he chaired BOC’s general assembly yesterday.
He said that Bahrain’s sports achievements were the outcome of the support of His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the King’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and SCYS chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Khalid also affirmed keenness to further support the sports sector in Bahrain through the work of the BOC in collaboration with various sports federations.
The meeting was attended by GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Cabinet Affairs Ministry Under-Secretary and BOC vice president Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, BOC board members as well as heads and representatives of sports federations.
BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji thanked Shaikh Khalid for his ongoing support. He also thanked all entities for their co-operation, particularly the SCYS.
Al Kooheji thanked the federations for their contributions, praising the outstanding performance of athletes who earned Bahrain valuable victories in sporting events.
The secretary general outlined sports achievements during 2022-23, the upcoming sports events to be hosted in Bahrain and preparations for the Paris Olympics.
The assembly also endorsed unanimously the Olympic Movement Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions, based on the request of the International Olympic Committee.
Eshaq Ebrahim Eshaq from the Bahrain Weightlifting Federation and Fajer Jassim Hassan Mohammed from the Bahrain Minifootball Association were elected unopposed as members of the BOC board of directors.
