An unemployed 34-year-old from India called in multiple fake bomb threats so that he could at least get regular meals in prison.
Santhosh Kumar from the state of Tamil Nadu was arrested after he called in multiple fake bomb threats to the Chennai Police Control Room. He claimed that there were going to be "explosions" at a railway station and a bus stand in the city of Erode.
Police conducted searches at multiple locations, including at a market, only to find nothing.
Police arrested Kumar, who upon interrogation stated that he called in the fake threats because he was currently unemployed and was struggling to make ends meet. He also stated that he believed he would be imprisoned for the fake threats and would get regular meals.
Kumar was charged under Sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
