Kuwait City: With the upcoming start of the academic year, over 20,000 Kuwaiti students enrolled in Egyptian universities are facing difficulties due to the continued suspension of flights between Kuwait and Egypt.
The inability to travel coincides with the start of the marathon registration process at universities following the release of high school results, daily reported.
National Union of Kuwaiti Students — Egypt branch president Ahmad Al-Shammari met with Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Dr Ahmad Al-Nasser to brief him on the suffering of the students,
In an exclusive interview with Al-Qabas, Mr Al-Shammari indicated the minister has assured to work on solving these problems in the coming days.
The closure of airspace has greatly affected the Kuwaiti students and increased their suffering, especially since the cost of air tickets has doubled to reach KD 400, he said.
The time required for making the trip has increased due to the need to stop at a transit airport and the closure had also led to postponement of the final exams from last year, even though students are on the verge of a new academic year.
“The delay in studying in Kuwait did not affect the enrollment of Kuwaiti students who wish to study in Egyptian universities, as registration in Egypt is still open and may be extended due to the exceptional circumstances imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.
