HORSERACING – Bleak clinched first place in the eighth and final race at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) yesterday to lift the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) Cup for owner Abdulla Fawzi Nass.
Fawzi Nass-trained Bleak, a four-year-old ridden by Husain Makki, won the 2,400m event, which featured BD4,000 in total prize money, ahead of Knight of Honour, competing for Al Mohamediya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed, and PJ McDonald.
Count Rostov finished third for Yousif Ahmed Alboainain, Yousif Alboainain, and Abdulla Faisal; while Tartan Chief was fourth for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Andrew Breslin.
All eight of yesterday’s races at REHC offered cups sponsored by NBB.
In race six for the NBB Prestige Cup, West Suffolk took the win after 1,800m for Shaikh Khalid bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa, Abdulla Kuwaiti, and Abdulrahim Jasim. They came away with the lion’s share of the BD4,000 total prize.
Laser Guided finished second for Victorious, Yousif Taher, and Ebrahim Nader; Returnofthemac was third for Mohamediya, Osama Hashim, and Ali Husain; while Vegas Jack was fourth for Mohamediya, Fawzi Nass, and McDonald.
In race three for the NBB Sprint Cup, also offering BD4,000 in prize money, Inveigle was the winner for Sayed Jawad Marzooq, Mahmood Jawad, and Nader. Tribal Hunter took second for Al Remah Stable, Kuwaiti, and Jasim, while third was Edward Cornelius for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and McDonald. Devaste of Mohamediya and trained by Hashim took fourth with Hasan Al Saffar in the saddle.
Meanwhile, in yesterday’s other events, Mudallal claimed the NBB Thara’a Cup in race seven for Mohamediya, Fawzi Nass, and McDonald; Galatia triumphed in race five to clinch the NBB Mile Cup for Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim, and Alberto Sanna; Winforglory secured the NBB Apprentice Cup in race four for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Hussain Asghar; Members Only took first place in race two to lift the NBB Go Cup for Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith, and Alejandro Brun; and Musannan M908 captured the NBB Arabian Cup in race one for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Asghar.
