A committee tasked with strengthening the anti-narcotic laws in Kuwait has submitted its report, which features a draft law containing stern amendments. The committee has recommended making trafficking in psychedelic and narcotic substances punishable by death and a fine of up to KD 2 million (BD 2.46 million).
Other proposed amendments include death penalties for anyone trading drugs within a prison and anyone involved in the distribution of drugs. Also, drug and psychotropic substance testing will be mandatory for prospective spouses, driving license applicants and public job applicants.
The recommendations come as a response to procedural loopholes in anti-narcotic laws and aim to address shortcomings in the wake of rising drug-related incidents.
