Dubai is set to have a trial run for an autonomous taxi service, set to launch in 2026.
Run by Chinese company Baidu, the driverless taxi service Apollo will roll out 50 cars in the trial run. The official launch will be next year, and the plan is to have 1,000 driverless taxis within the next three years.
The vehicles use a set of 40 sensors to detect roads around them and ensure a safe drive. The 50 cars that will be running on Dubai's roads will collect data to make every consecutive trip safer and more efficient.
The company logged over 150 million km of safe driving worldwide and completed more than 10 million autonomous trips, making it the world's largest operator of autonomous vehicles.
