A growing AI trend has gone viral in Guangzhou, China, known as the “AI shampooing craze!”
The innovative machine uses infrared sensors in order to detect the client's scalp, and then select a specific shampoo and washing method based on the individual’s hair type. The AI-powered apparatus is capable of washing and rinsing hair in just 13 minutes.
One salon owner from the Tianhe District said that the “AI shampooing machines feature several built-in washing modes, like speed wash, normal, extra time, or water shower, as well as three different scalp massage intensity settings.” Additional features include different modes depending on the hair length.
The futuristic machine, creatively crafted for the beauty industry, charges just $2.59 per wash.
Employees say the AI system significantly reduces staffing pressures and saves time, since the machines are capable of handling multiple customers simultaneously. However, the fully automated hair-washing experience has garnered mixed views from customers, who have commented on social media platforms.
One person criticised the experience on Weibo, stating, “I tried it, and it’s useless; my scalp hurts.”
Another user wrote, “I’ve tried it, it just sprays bubbles and rinses with water, but it can’t even reach the back of my head, and it’s not clean enough, I have to do it manually.”
Whilst others had a more enjoyable time. Ms Li, for example, said that “It felt strange at first, but the results were great.”
